Fun Facts:
- In keeping with founder Walt Disney’s conservation legacy, the beachfront resort was specifically designed to create minimal impact on the nesting patterns of the migrating Sea Turtles whose annual hatching behavior is triggered by moonlight. East-facing resort windows are tinted to diminish the impact of interior lighting and no exterior lights face the ocean.
- Indian River Country is located on what is called the Treasure Coast, so-named after all the shipwrecks just offshore.
- The Indian River Lagoon is home to 36 rare and endangered species, 32 subtropical maritime trees and shrubs, one-third of the U.S. manatee population, and is the number one nesting area for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle in the Northern hemisphere.
- The climate has produced an unusual mix of fascinating flora: ancient oak trees and pine forests, blended with swaying palms and colorful blooms typical of the tropics.
Hidden Mickeys:
- Look down at the area rugs to see the familiar shape of Mickey Mouse
- Search for the Island Grove Packing Company mural behind the resort front desk and find 3 oranges strategically placed in the upper right corner.
- An Island Grove Packing Company antique pick-up truck cab is mounted on the wall near the lobby and small souvenir store. Take a glimpse in the truck’s rear-view mirror; you may find a Mickey Mouse shape.
Deliberate Mickeys:
- Look for Mickey Mouse’s hands on the Lobby elevator indicator.
- The fence surrounding the feature pool has Mickey Mouse shapes cut into the top of the posts.
- Find Mickey Mouse shapes in the wrought iron fencing around the Pirate’s Plunge pool area.
- The image of Mickey Mouse can be found on the pillows in the Lobby area.
